BIOGRAPHY

Born on April 18, 1986, in Tarrafal, on the island of São Nicolau in Cape Verde, Lucibela discovered her passion for singing at a very young age. After her family settled in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, she joined the local group "Minde Som" and began performing in hotels in Sal and Boa Vista. There, she honed her skills and gained recognition for her interpretations of classic Cape Verdean music.
In 2012, she moved to Praia, where she quickly became a prominent figure in the capital's music scene. There, she met guitarist Kaku Alves, former accompanist of Cesária Évora. In 2016, Lucibela made her debut in Lisbon and began attracting the attention of both the public and industry professionals. She was one of the breakout stars of the Atlantic Music Expo in 2017, before performing on several international stages.
Her first album, Laço Umbilical, was released in 2018 and marked the beginning of a new phase in her career. In 2022, she released Amdjer, an album dedicated to women, and more specifically to Cape Verdean women.
In November 2024, Lucibela released her third album, Moda Antiga, a project deeply dedicated to the richness and preservation of Cape Verde's musical heritage. Through eleven tracks, the artist revisits traditional compositions while incorporating new creations that remain true to the archipelago's musical roots. The album explores morna and coladeira, among other genres, and pays tribute to several great Cape Verdean authors and composers such as Anu Nobu, Manuel de Novas, Mário Lúcio, and Zézé di Nha Reinalda. With Moda Antiga, Lucibela affirms her commitment to keeping the musical memory of her country alive and passing this heritage on to new generations. Recorded in Mindelo with renowned Cape Verdean musicians, under the musical direction and arrangements of Toy Vieira, the album perfectly illustrates her artistic identity: a warm and powerful voice serving music deeply rooted in Cape Verdean culture. Often presented as a worthy successor to Cesária Évora, Lucibela nevertheless asserts her own artistic identity. Her ambition is to take Cape Verdean music around the world while remaining true to its roots, its history, and the richness of its heritage.
